Following a few “false starts” and phantom dates, the eagerly anticipated 2023 Presentation evening finally unfolded in the 19th Hole last Thursday evening.
The evening typically proceeds with the Men’s KO Cup (alongside the Ladies’ Scratch/Bronze Cups). However, owing to our temporary portakabin situation last year, this, of course, couldn’t happen as scheduled.
Continuing with tradition, MC David Hancock resumed his role as the master of ceremonies. Membership Services Chair and erstwhile good sport, Gethin Evans, took on the role of locum professional for the evening, assisting with the distribution of the Cups and Trophies.
Fresh off her victory as the Queen of the Ladies Charity fancy dress competition earlier in the day, Marketing Chair Di Dredge assumed the role of paparazzi for the evening, capturing snapshots of the winners in their triumphant moments.
Unfortunately, Club Captain Mick Seal was unable to attend, so Vice Captain-elect Brian Jones graciously filled his (large) shoes, presenting trophies to all the deserving winners.
Brian thanked everyone who had contributed tirelessly throughout the year to ensure the success of the event. This included recognition for the efforts of the C+H committee and team, Rhys and the Pro Shop team for their management of the competitions, and Ann and David in the office for their meticulous handling of medals, trophies, and engraving.
Additionally, Brendan and his team were acknowledged for seamlessly attending to everyone’s beverage requirements throughout the evening.
Adding an air of sophistication and significance to the occasion, Vice-Captain Heather Morgan and Club President John Gillespie presented accolades such as the Presidents Cup, Sidney Hughes Trophy, Ladies Scratch Cup and the Morgan Tucker Trophy.
The evening provided a fitting opportunity for winners to claim their well-deserved positions on the podium, receiving recognition for their perseverance in navigating various knockout rounds during the summer or maintaining exceptional performance in monthly medal or honours board competitions.
Paul Haley, Dave Morris, winners of the Regimental Bowl and Cobb Cup respectively, along with Andy Pouton, victor of the Scratch Cup, graciously delivered words of appreciation at the conclusion of the event.
Appreciation was extended to all the winners and their families for attending on a dreary Thursday evening. As David noted, the 2024 Presentation evening will return to its customary slot immediately following the conclusion of the KO Cup Finals on Sunday 15 September 2024.
