Tenby GC’s Saturday Swingers embarked on their 28th Annual Tour recently. In terms of distance from Tenby. This was their shortest ever Tour.

On the Saturday, the Swingers played in an Open Day at Newport Links GC. The original nine hole course was laid out in 1925 and then extended to 18 holes in 2008. There are wonderful sea views from most of the holes. The club has always been privately owned but apparently the members are in the process of acquiring it.

Owen James, Mike Antony and Juan Cruz all had 30pts. Richard Ormond, Andy Prosser and Gary McNeilly each had 31pts each.

Neil Webb posted an excellent 33pts. However, the top Swinger at Newport was Steve Maytum with an excellent 34pts.

The Swingers spent the Saturday night in the Premier Inn Hotel in St. Davids before playing St. Davids City GC on the Sunday. This picturesque links nine hole course above Whitesands Bay was opened in 1903 due to the pending railway connection from Letterston which would have attracted more visitors to St. Davids but unfortunately never materialised!

Nick Allen had 30pts, Neil Webb came in with 31pts and Owen James recorded 32pts. Gary McNeilly was fourth with 34pts. Andy Prosser and Richard Ormond tied for second place with 35pts. However, the best score of the day was Mike Antony’s 36pts.

Consequently, there was a tie for top spot with three Swingers totalling 66pts for the two rounds. Richard pipped Andy for the runner-up spot by virtue of a better back in nine on Sunday. However, Mike is the Swingers’ Tour Champion for 2025 due to his better second round. His winner’s speech was emotional.
