Perfect sunshine greeted the 18 mixed pairs competing for the prestigious Morgan Tucker Trophy in this year’s Mixed Greensomes at Tenby Golf Club. Adding a special touch to the day, club legend Mervyn Tucker and current Captain Heather Morgan were on hand to present the trophy. Sincere thanks to both for their presence and support.

With each player required to contribute at least six drives, the format was expected to produce cautious scoring. But the doubters were proved wrong, the leaderboard lit up with impressive results. Nine pairs posted 40 points or more, with some strong performances falling just short of the prizes.

Two pairs scored an excellent 42 points, with Alison Daniel and Simon Gumbley edging out Angie Gottwaltz and Roger Schooling on countback to take fourth place. In third were Izzy and Chris Lawrence with 43 points. Runners-up, Rhian Walters and Rob Morgan, carded a superb 44 points, a total that in most years would have secured the trophy.

However, top honours went to Wendy Allen and John Ball, whose 44 points included a rare ‘blob’ on the 8th hole. A stellar back nine of just two over par proved decisive, sealing victory on countback.

Congratulations to all players for a fantastic day of golf, and special thanks to Mixed Committee member Beth McMann for organising and closing the competition.
