Played in glorious sunshine on a beautifully presented course, the annual Seniors Captain v Vice Captain match proved a very enjoyable occasion for all involved, particularly those representing Vice Captain Tony Andrews.

With 11 matches on the card, there was plenty to play for, but the overall outcome soon began to take shape. Of the opening six matches, Tony’s side claimed five wins, leaving Seniors Captain Martin Spurrin with only a small consolation in the excellent performance of his own pairing alongside David Rees.

David made the perfect start with a birdie at the 1st after firing his approach to within two feet of the flag. Martin then produced some superb golf of his own, birdieing three holes and rarely putting a foot wrong. Together they were the standout winners on the day, securing the most emphatic result of the match by 5&3.

Elsewhere, many of the contests were closely fought and went right to the closing holes. There were also some impressive turnarounds, with Barry Neale and Paul Crawford coming back from four down to win their match, while Paul Northam and Neil W Thomas battled back from a similar position to earn a half.

The final result saw the Vice Captain’s team run out convincing 8.5–2.5 winners.

Thanks go to Martin and Tony for organising another excellent event.
