Tenby A hosted Clyne GC in round one of the SWSC on Tuesday in perfect golfing conditions. Each team fielded 3 pairs in the betterball format. Leading off for Tenby, Captain Mick Seal and Glenn Smith went 3 up early in the round, and didn’t lose a hole in their 5 and 4 victory.
Second out were Ian Duke and debutant Steve Ruff, who contradicted his name by playing most of the round from the fairway. This reliable pair ran out 4 and 3 winners.
The last pairing Simon Sweet and Alan Sayers looked like making it a clean sweep but the vagaries of the Tenby weather, intervened, when the thunderstorm claxon sounded as they were walking up the 18th leading 1up. As we know all Tenby players are honourable and they agreed to call the match a half. The final result Tenby 2 1/2 Clyne 1/2.
Congratulations to the team who now move into the last 16 of this prestigious competition.
