A perfect summer’s day greeted players at Tenby Golf Club as 21 pairs took to the fairways for the annual Usher Cup Mixed Stableford, a popular board event played in superb conditions.
The course, presented in pristine condition by the greenkeeping team, was running fast and true, rewarding precision and punishing anything less. Club officials thanked the greens staff for their outstanding work in preparing the course.
Scoring ranged from impressive to forgettable, with errant shots proving costly, a theme also seen in the recent Seniors Open. Nonetheless, eight pairs managed to play to or beat their handicaps in the competitive field.
Taking third place with a solid 39 points were Beth McMann and Mike D. Williams. Just ahead in second were Diana Dredge and Martin Spurrin with 40 points. But it was Donna Kenney and Meirion Griffiths who stole the show, posting a brilliant 43 points to win the Usher Cup and top prize of £30 each. The win capped off a fantastic week for Meirion, who also triumphed in the Tenby Seniors Open earlier in the week.
