Nine pairs from Tenby’s mixed team made the trip to Ashburnham last Sunday for their annual greensomes fixture. The day began under glorious sunshine, though, as every West Wales golfer knows, the weather can never be taken for granted.

Unfortunately, there was some bad news before tee-off, Chris and Ann Topliss learned their opponents had broken down en route to the course and were unable to play.

Leading the way were Captain Pam and Steve Wareham. Things looked grim as they stood 1 down on the 15th tee, but a late rally saw them pull through with an impressive 2 & 1 win.

Other Tenby winners included:

Angie and Roger: 3 & 2

Fair and Allan: 5 & 4

Diane and Brian: 3 & 2

As the afternoon progressed, the weather took a turn for the worse. Heavy rain swept in, forcing three matches that were all square to be called off and agreed as halved.

Despite the challenging conditions, Tenby secured a strong away win with a final score of 5.5 – 2.5. The team then enjoyed a superb post-match Sunday lunch, which received high praise all round.

Thanks go to Captain Pam for organising the team and to Ashburnham Captain Phil, who kindly lent a waterproof jacket when the downpour struck.
