On Saturday 13 September, Tenby Golf Club hosted Langland Bay Golf Club for the second leg of the Bondie Cup. After falling 7½–2½ in the away leg, Tenby had it all to do if they were to retain the trophy. Conditions were testing, with strong winds and heavy downpours challenging both teams throughout the day.
Club Captain Heather Morgan acted as official starter, sending out Brian Jones and Neil Thomas in the opening match. The pair combined superbly, keeping things tight until a torrential downpour on the 13th tee forced both Langland players into wayward drives and lost balls. From there, Tenby seized control, and Neil Thomas’ steady par at the 15th clinched the point.
Momentum began to shift. Victories followed for Phil Young & Austin Davies, Nick Allen & Martin Morris, Mick Seal & Leigh Jones, Paul Northam & Joe Plaister, and Chris Stephens & Dafydd Evans. Meanwhile, Rob Willcox & Allen Watts and Dai Cope & Neil Webb secured hard-fought halves.
With the match finely balanced, the result came down to the final pairing of Wyndham Collins and Jon Large. They delivered under pressure, closing out a 3&2 win to spark celebrations in the clubhouse.
The day ended Tenby 8 – Langland 2, giving Tenby a dramatic 10½–9½ overall victory.
Club Vice Captain Brian Jones praised his team’s spirited fightback, while Langland Bay’s Steve Bond was gracious in defeat. Both thanked Brendan and his staff for an excellent meal to round off a memorable contest.
