Both legs of this year’s AJO Memorial were somewhat monopolised by members of Trefloyne GC who consequently walked away with all three trophies and most of the prize money!
First Leg – Trefloyne GC
Unfortunately there was rain during the morning but the maturing parkland course was in an excellent overall condition. The three best cards were handed in by home members scoring 39pts each – Glenn Hunter, Bob Batchelor and Tom Wright. Together with two others, Lee Burgin was two adrift on 37pts.
Second Leg – Tenby GC
The famous links were also well presented. The weather was dry but windy as usual. Trefloyne’s Ben Palin, who has played a lot of golf at Tenby, scored a fabulous 40pts. He was closely followed by Lee Burgin and Tenby’s John Broomhead – both at 39pts. Glenn Hunter was one of five on 37pts.
AJO Bowl – 36 Hole Aggregate
Eight competitors scored a fine 70pts or better over the two rounds. Tom Wright and Ben Palin finished joint third with 75pts each. Glenn Hunter and Lee Burgin tied for top spot with aggregates of 76pts. By virtue of his better second round at Tenby, Lee was crowned AJO Memorial Champion for 2025.
Tenby Observer Cup – Best “Gross” Aggregate
The TO Cup was won by Trefloyne’s Tom Wright with 65pts. Tenby’s Mike Schooling was Runner-up with 61pts.
AJO Memorial Ladies Bowl
The low turnout at both Trefloyne and Tenby was disappointing. Rosie Sweet won at Trefloyne with 33pts and home member Linda Tordoff-Evans had the top score at Tenby with 35pts. Regarding the 36 Hole Aggregates, Rosie pipped Linda by 63pts to 62pts and was presented with the Ladies Bowl.
