Tenby Golf Club’s mixed team made the long journey to Leominster Golf Club on Sunday to compete in the British Mixed Team Knockout, a five-pair matchplay event.

Unseasonably cold conditions and strong winds made for a challenging day, with bobble hats and waterproofs very much the order of the day. The hilly, tree-lined course was a marked contrast to the familiar links at Tenby, but the team adapted well and showed plenty of determination throughout.

First out for Tenby were Sarah Phillips and Dave Morris, who battled hard and took their match all the way to the 18th before narrowly losing out on the final green. Wendy Allen and Brian Jones found themselves behind early after their opponents birdied the 1st hole. Despite falling behind on the front nine, they showed great spirit to win three holes in a row before eventually losing 4&3. Angie Gottwaltz and Roger Schooling faced a similar result in their match, but Tenby rallied strongly in the final two games. Team captain Diane Gough and Ian Duke secured a well-earned win, while Ann and Wyndham Collins produced a solid performance to halve their match.

The final score was Leominster 3.5 – Tenby 1.5. Leominster proved to be excellent hosts, and the match was played in great spirit, with new friendships formed along the way.

Thanks go to everyone from Tenby Golf Club who made the long journey to Herefordshire, and especially to Diane Gough for organising the day.
