What an amazing day, from the time I started planning until the actual day- the hard-work was so worth it! But none of it would have been possible without the fantastic support from the 80 members who signed up for our traditional teams of four draw. Sadly, not enough for the planned 2 shotgun starts and while we didn’t quite have enough participants to fill two shotgun starts, the enthusiasm and camaraderie from our 80 members more than made up for it.

My family have supported me from day one of my Captaincy- not just my unbelievably supportive husband, but also my children and grandchildren, who ran a free bar on the 6th which apparently went down really well. I must also thank the team of David Hancock, Irene Gilman and Beth McMann for helping me with the difficult task we had at the beginning of the week – trying to accommodate preferences of morning or afternoon times, early or late as possible – oh my, I had to lie down with a headache by the time I got home! Then, after the competition, thanks to Beth who ran the competition for me to have the results.

Next, I want to thank the Greenkeepers, Scott and team, for setting everything up so beautifully on the course; and especially to Andy who changed his shift to come in and set up the bar on the 6th. I was only sad that I wasn’t playing! Then Stuart and team in the kitchen and all the hospitality team, your support and exemplary service has received nothing but praise. Well done.

It only remains for me to thank the team in the Pro Shop. Guto Walters was there before me at 7.00am having come from Cardigan; and Matthew Hearne was up at 5.30am in order to arrive before the first tee off. They completely ran their side of things until the end of the day, with Matthew sorting all the prizes. Their support went above and beyond.

So finally, to the competition itself! The first team out was a strong one of Ben Childs, Beth McMann, Steve Williams and Laura McQueen. They came in with a gross of 68 and a nett score of 55. We all thought that was a winning score but how wrong we were.

At the end of the day, they were beaten into 4th place on the back 6 holes by Spencer Harries, Ruth Goldwait, Ian Draisey and Richard Reed claiming the 3rd prize of golf pencil bags (all ready for the 3 clubs and a putter game later this year).

Second were Roger Schooling, Irene Gilman, Barrie Frayne and Vee Davies also on countback, but the winners had the best score of the day, a nett 54 off only 14 shots! They were Paul Northam, David Blackmore, Nel Allen and Bev Palmer.

All winners prizes are in the Pro Shop, so please claim them as soon as you can. Twos and Bag Draws were run by the Pro Shop and results are on Masterscoreboard.

My last huge thanks must go to the team from Paul Sartori who ran my raffle all day so well. Jo Lutwyche, the lady in charge, has become a great friend, and is now recognised by many.

Her team were blown away by the quality and number of raffle prizes donated by members and sourced by Ann and then Belinda in the office. The final good news of the night for me was that the raffle raised £1000 for such a worthy local cause. So thank you all for your generosity.

Your Captain – Heather
