On Thursday 29 August, Tenby Golf Club hosted their annual Ladies Open Day, attracting an impressive turnout of 117 participants which made up 39 teams.
Golfers traveled from across South Wales, with some coming from as far as Monmouthshire and Radyr. Many of the ladies enjoyed the club’s new accommodation facilities, opting to stay in The Dunes the night before or the day of the event.
The course was in excellent condition, thanks to the hard work of the Greens team, and there were compliments on the immaculate condition of the greens.
Luckily, the weather stayed dry, making the day even more enjoyable. The halfway house, stocked with refreshments and snacks was a huge hit and a special thank you go to the ladies who managed it throughout the day.
As for the competition results, the home team took full advantage of their familiarity with the course, finishing with a fantastic 94 points to claim the win.
Congratulations to the Tenby Golf Club team of Diana Dredge, Donna Kenney and Diane Gough for their victory.
South Pembrokeshire’s team of Lorraine James, Sharon Kaye and Jane Parsons secured second place with 91 points, an impressive score considering it wasn’t their home course.
Haverfordwest Golf Club’s team of Melissa Harrison, Alyson Nash and Katrina Pitches finished in third place. All winning teams received lovely prizes, including golfing tops and gilets.
Special recognition goes to Susan Hellyar from Monmouthshire for winning Nearest the Pin and to Eleanor Morris of Radyr Golf Club for her impressive Longest Drive. Additionally, Linda Tordoff-Evans, Julia Brettle and Ann Jones each recorded a Two.
The day wouldn’t have been as successful without the outstanding service from the Tenby Golf Club hospitality and kitchen team, who kept the ladies well-fed with delicious bar meals, light lunches and home-baked cakes throughout the day.
Special thanks go to the lady members who helped with the organisation and assisted throughout the day, as well as to everyone who kindly donated raffle prizes.
A big thank you goes to Lady Captain Gill John, whose hard work helped make the day a success. From the start of the event to the final presentation, her dedication and enthusiasm ensured that every participant was well looked after and had a smooth experience from the first tee.
The clubhouse was lively in the evening, with many ladies catching up with old friends and celebrating the day’s success.
The ladies section are thrilled with the success of the day and want to thank all the visitors for making the trip and contributing to a fantastic competition. They’re already looking forward to next year’s event and hope that teams and visitors will return to experience another special Open Day at Tenby Golf Club.
