Tenby Golf Club’s Mixed Section eventually completed their first-round match of the Ping Mixed Foursomes 2025 against Mond Valley, and it was worth the wait.

Originally scheduled for Tuesday 27 May at Carmarthen GC, the match had to be abandoned due to persistent rain and mist that rendered the course unplayable. Wales Golf granted a one-week extension, and thanks to the generous support of Machynys GC, the match was rescheduled and played on Friday 6 June.

Tenby’s first pair, Alison and Brian, faced a nail-biting contest against Mond Valley’s Captain Carol and her partner Martin. The lead swung back and forth throughout the match, with Mond Valley 1 up on the 16th tee. Alison produced a superb approach shot to three feet, helping Tenby win the hole. After halving the short 17th, everything came down to the final hole. The challenging tee shot over water proved costly, as Brian fell short and Mond Valley secured the hole and the match, with a steady par five.

That result left Tenby’s hopes resting on the remaining two pairs. Pam and Ian, giving away seven shots, held their nerve superbly. A composed par three on the 17th sealed a hard-fought win. All attention then turned to Angie and Roger, a reliable duo fresh from winning a Tenby Mixed competition. Despite conceding nine shots, they delivered another impressive performance, finishing 2&1 winners.

Tenby now progress to face Machynys in the next round with date and venue to be confirmed by the respective Captains.
