Away Draw Woes for Tenby Teams
It’s been a challenging spell for several Tenby teams, as the dreaded Curse of the Away Draw struck not once, but three times in just ten days.
Mick Seal’s South Wales Seniors side made the trip to Coed y Mwster GC but found themselves well beaten on a quirky and testing course, where local knowledge proved decisive. A similar fate befell Brian Jones’s team in the same competition, falling 3-0 on the lush, fast-running greens of Pontypridd. A big thank you to all who made themselves available for both fixtures.
The British Mixed Team also faced an uphill task, quite literally on their away visit to Herefordshire GC on June 1st. Despite a spirited effort from all five pairs, the hilly terrain and demanding tee shots, again favouring local familiarity, tipped the scales. The team of Alison Daniel, Simon Gumbley, Sue Griffiths, Brian Jones, Linda Tordoff Evans, Ian Duke, Angie Gottwaltz, Roger Schooling, Ann and Wyndham Collins put up a strong fight and thoroughly enjoyed the superbly maintained course and warm hospitality.
The final score was a 4–1 loss, but the mood remained upbeat: match lost, new friends made. A special mention goes to Angie Gottwaltz, who stepped in at the last minute on Saturday night, even giving up a planned Sunday lunch to represent the club. 👏
