Tenby Rabbits have concluded their Three Counties Summer League matches with an overall record of 3 wins, 3 draws and 4 loses to end up in a decent mid-table position – a couple of places higher than the previous Summer so an overall improvement. That record includes a solitary home loss against the current League leaders, Garnant.
The Summer League players accrue individual points for their efforts in their matches with the highest number of points winning the Mick Gillet Trophy (an award named after a late Rabbit Captain). It was a close run thing with the final outcome not decided until after the last match with Steve Decosimo just being pipped to the Trophy by Paul Northam.
The 61st Tenby Rabbits AGM was held on Sept 26th with the outgoing Captain Nick Goode handing over the reigns (and the various bits of Rabbit paraphernalia) to the incoming Captain Will Williams. Captain Nick had to endure a non-playing Summer due to his low handicap but at the AGM he thanked his players for their support throughout the summer fixtures and especially to Will his Vice for fulfilling the Leader role. New Captain Will confirmed the destination of his Spring Tour as Mendip Springs and Steve Watkins assumed the role of Vice-Captain (again!).
The final act for Nick was at the B&H stableford trophy last Sunday. The Summer League players battle to win to get their names engraved on the Shield and the winner this year was Steve Ruff with a fine 39 points and he just pipped Will Williams on countback, with Robin Bradbury third on 37. The comp also counts towards the Captain vs Vice-Captain Shield with Nick’s selection outscoring Will’s selection – the gap being a great deal larger than the outcome of the contest on the same day ‘across the pond’ at Bethpage Black!
The Rabbits Winter League starts this coming Sunday. The matches tee off at 9am and show on Masterscoreboard. If any member with a handicap of 13.4 or higher fancies joining us during the winter then please feel free to add your name onto the MSB bookings. We really are a welcoming bunch!
