This year’s Hamilton Cup is being held at Kennemer Golf Club, a course with a storied history, having hosted the DP World Tour’s Dutch Open numerous times. It’s the same course where Seve Ballesteros clinched his first European title on its meticulously maintained fairways and greens.
Wednesday’s practice round was played in scorching 28-degree heat, leaving many players wilting before reaching the 18th hole. The round was followed by a reception where the host rolled out the red carpet, where everyone took advantage of their hospitality.
The competition began on Thursday with a better ball format, and Tenby got off to an excellent start. Rob and Rhian led the team with an impressive 45 points, while Brian and Tony put in a solid performance with 37 points. Unfortunately, Dinah and Richard, along with their Pau partners, were disqualified due to a technicality.
Due to a shortage of players, Tenby borrowed two players from Kennemer, who also scored 37 points, allowing the team to remain competitive.
The second round on Friday will be a single Stableford format, with all eight scores counting towards the final standings. This is where the Cup will be decided.
